  1. Excellent review. MMS is the best Crowes song period and the Freak n Roll version is indeed the best music my ears have ever heard. TSHMC is as good or better than any rock album before or since. It’s an absolute gem! For some reason I can never get my friends that are casual fans to listen to anything else but SYMM. I don’t get it? If you liked SYMM then you should absolutely love TSHMC. Just an epic, epic album.

    1. Thanks Cole! I’m glad you dug the podcast. I think that SYMM has some of the more commercial sounding Crowes and many of the songs are very straight forward. SMCC represented a gigantic leap forward in complexity and depth of composition. Some people don’t want to have to sit down and soak in music with a deeper meaning and emotional content. That is probably a partial reason why some folks prefer SYMM above the rest of the catalog. The Crowes have grown and expanded their abilitites to play music in all possible amalgams of American roots music over the last 20+ years. If someone wants to focus only on what they did in their early twenties, then they are the ones missing out.

      1. I never understood the people that don’t want to listen to a band they allegedly like when I flat out tell them how great their later albums are. Its amazing to me. I used to be the dummy that thought they didn’t have anything good after SYMM. A friend set me straight thankfully or I would still be ignorant about it. The newer albums are great in their own respect. I love Warpaint as much or better than Three Snakes. TSHMC and Amorica are always 1 & 2. Just a great band and easily my all time favorite. I tell my girlfriend this is what the Stones could’ve sounded like if Jagger could sing.
